is it necessary to remove the entire steering sector to work on the control valve?

After getting steering wheel off,Thats the most fun. Pull rear cowl and fuel tank, but if real "good" the tank can be left on. it can be serviced rite there on tractor.

just tool the steering control valve apart,8 check valves,4 springs,all to be in good shape,only thing i noticed was the large nut was not staked in place,other than that everything looks good,anyone got any suggestions about what i should look for next,no power steering at all.thanks

If the large nut was not staked in place, and had backed off, that was your problem right there. Proper adjustment of that nut is critical to proper operation.

geuss i will get some new seals and try to reassemble,hopefully that is my only problem.

If that doesn't do it then it might be the pump.
