Ford 960 clutch pedal

When we used the finish mower the
clutch pedal is way high. In the
owners manual it says 9 3/8 is
where it should be. Ours is almost
straight up. Does the pedal height
adjustment affect anything else?
Or just pedal height? I hate to go
move it and find out clutch ain't
happy! Thanks!!

I think 9 3/8 would be correct for a *50 tractor. If one sets the *60 pedal too low the PTO clutch is not going to be releasable.

being able to set the pedal height at the correct measurement and still have the 2 stage clutch work properly is dependent on the pressure plate being properly adjusted. As the transmission clutch wears it changes the gap on the pressure plate that controls when the 2nd stage disengages. Because that adjustment requires splitting the tractor the clutch pedal adjustment gets changed to compensate.

You could try lowering the pedal and readjust your free play and see it works properly. Worst case you would have to put it back where it is now.

Its probably wear on the discs and pressure plates. I have one thats almost straight up. Its a good leg exercise though.

Mine is like that also. I wouldn?t touch itt very expensive to replace if something goes wrong.

You need to take all the slop out of your clutch pedal assembly also. New pedal bushing, maybe new tranny pin, maybe drill and bush the pedal where the pin connects, new pin, drill and bush the arm holes on both ends. You might find some nylon bushings for them.
