engine block number

About 4 years of design engineering (1967 vs 1971). Note that the casting numbers don't relate to the exact year of manufacture.

The C7 block might still have screw in freeze plugs, while the D1 block should have cup style plugs. In addition, the deck height should be about .010" lower on the D1 block to accommodate the thicker head gaskets. I suspect this 4-year gap is also when they went from canister to screw-on oil filters.

DINN6015 is actually D1NN6015:

D1 means the casting was designed in 1971
First N means it was designed for the tractor division
Second N means it was designed by the tractor division
6015 means "Engine block".

If there's no additional letters after the 6015, then it was the first engine block designed by the tractor division for the tractor division in 1971. If there are additional letters off to the right then those letters say which subsequent design within the same year it is.

C7NN6015 - basically the same as above except that it was designed in 1967.
