Ford 850 Engine swap

I have a xtra Ford 3 cyl. diesel motor in good shape and my neighbor has a Ford 850 tractor with a bad engine. Will the 3 cyl. diesel bolt up to the bell housing on the 850?

Find a local industrial equipment salvage yard and find a 172 or 192 out of a gen set or air compressor. Probably have to swap over the tractor governor.

Where are you, and how bad is his 172 c.i.? Needs to be rebuilt and he doesn't want to do a rebuild, or not rebuildable?
I just picked up a 172 industrial last week that I would consider selling. It turns over, but I don't know anything about it beyond
that. I'm in n/w WI.

Oregon fordfarmer

My neighbor said it got run low on oil and spun a rod bearing or possibly threw a rod.

Maybe you could trade your three holer engine for a 172 that the neighbor could use?[/quote]

That's a good idea

ATTN: ArleninOr.... Does her partner still have that Ford 850 OHV motor for trade?

Anybody else have a good 172 engine for trade for a Ford 3 cyl. Diesel engine?

Yeah, shipping would kill any deal there. Unless it was Oregon, WI. :)
With a spun bearing, it could be rebuilt, with a rod through the block, most likely not.
