Ford 2000 gas to diesel

Can I put a 3000 diesel engine on a 2000 gas tractor?
I have one of each, and would prefer the smaller size of the 2000.

there are two different 2000s. I'm assuming yours is the latter 3 cylinder version like your 3000. If that's so, there should be no reason that I'm aware of why you couldn't swap. you would need to swap the fuel tank and lines as well, I'd think.

Assuming they are both '65 up smaller how? Flywheel back castings, and almost all sheet metal are the same on both machines. You may have to change radiator shells if your 3000 has an oil bath air filter.

The 2000 and the 3000 are essential the same tractor in weight size and such. The easiest thing to do would get some 2000 decals and put on the 3000 and make believe that you swapped an engine into a 2000. Both should be the three cylinder blue tractors.

If the 2000 has a 3 cylinder gas engine, then yes, the engines can be swapped, but the two tractors are the same size, so if you are talking about a 3 cylinder 2000 I don't understand tyour remark about the 2000 being smaller.

If the 2000 has a 4 cylinder gas engine, then no, they will not swap.

I was under the impression that the 2000 was a smaller transmission and that road crews would order a 2000 with a 3000 engine.

Transmissions were the same. If you're talking about a 2000LCG (2110), those had shorter spindles and tires, making the sit lower, but otherwise still the same size. The 2110 did have an option where it could be ordered with a 3000 engine.

What do you mean by smaller?
As said below, the 3 cylinder 2000 and the 3000 are nearly identical tractors.
You can make them lower however.
I put the shorty front spindles from a 2110 on my 3000. They are a direct bolt-on swap. They drop the front end about 4". With 12.4x28" rear tires they make the tractor seem a lot smaller.

Or better yet, it could be ordered as a 4110 and it would be exactly the same size and height as the 2110, but with the 4000 series 201 ci engine.
