Couple days ago we noticed an odd noise while using the tractor. Got it home and did some investigating seems like sound is coming from the valve cover. Why would it suddenly start tapping?? Thanks

Narrow it down using a wooden broom stick. Any wood stick will work. Cup your hand over one end and stick the other end on the engine in different spots. Works like an amplifer I guess you could say.

Agree, find out where noise is coming from.

I hear noises sometimes that mean nothing, just seems to be I am looking for something.

Pull the valve cover and see which rocker arm is not getting oiled. I'm saying this only because if this is the problem its only going to get much worse.

Well.....I got me a stick and
stuck it on the valve cover. Moved
it front to back several times,
moving an inch at a time.
Everything sounds the same! We
have been using the tractor for
hours at a time unrolling fence in
1st gear at a sloooow idle. Maybe
carbon build up? I added 8 oz of
Lucas fuel treatment to the gas.
Maybe that will help?

Years ago my Dad had a rattle that came from under the valve cover on his 861. He talked to the mechanic at the Ford dealership and asked him what he should do about it. The mechanic said he could bring it to them, but they would take the cover off and wire the oil tube to a stud. He said they get loose and bump the nearest stud.

Who knows?

Will be checking things over late
this afternoon. I hope it's
simple. Gotta use it tomorrow ,in
Bibb co on a fence. Labor on labor
day!
