Ford 600- 1957 draw bar

How does the draw bar stay in place on a Ford 600? We pulled the "bracket" off that the draw bar slides into and there was a pin with a cotter pin that was kind of hidden between the bracket and the bottom of the tractor. Is that normal? Seems like the draw bar bracket has some kind of twist and lock mechanism built in it but my tractor just has this pin set-up. I'm just wondering if this is normal as it will work. I may have to look at one at a show or just better study a parts manual.

They made two different styles. The later ones have just a pin with a spring clip. You could grind the top of the old style off and just use the later pin and clip.

I've had the experience of those pins dropping out and giving a scare if the wagon, etc., rolls back.
After the second time, I found a deep socket that fit perfect and I run mechanic's wire through in
several loops to hold it up. They need to be watched carefully. Deep grass can do it.

Moday, my four cylinder Fords all have the arrangement that you describe. The pin goes up through both bracket holes and the drawbar. The spring pin which is approx. 3/16 hard spring material goes through a hole in the pin. It slips in between the bottom of the transmission case and the top of the bracket. There is just enough of the loop of the spring pin sticking out to the side to get the blade of a screwdriver in there to pry it out. It would be virtually impossible for any brush or chain link fence remnants to hoo the in and pull it out let alone tall grass or weeds. Mine are all later, a 1957 a 1959 and a 1961
