Ford 3000 injector pump

i have a ford 3000 3 cylinder diesel with a Simms pump It has not ran in years when I purchased it I pulled the fuel lines off of the injectors and it was only pumping to number 1 and 3 I found that the barrel and plunger was stuck so I replaced it and now it pumps to all 3 injectors. But now when i tried to crank it it would not spin fast enough to fire. I found that my battery did not have enough cca to spin it fast enough So I decided to try and pull it behind my truck and pop the clutch When I did I poured a solid white smoke from the exhaust before it even started to run on its own But it finally started running on its own but running terrible and popping like pistol fire coming from the exhaust My question is could it be from the timing being off making it pop and run terrible or possibly another problem Please help

I take it you pulled the pump off the engine to replace the p&b's??
Did you notice the timing mark on the front hub of the pump??
The hub has a line that lines up w/ a boss on the pump..
Another thing> is the cold start button disengaged?? its the small rod in the middle of the shut off shaft..
It should pop OUT when not needed.. push IN to start.. a stuck cs rod will make one smoke BAD..
Good luck.

Setting for years without running? Might have severe corrosion damage on one or more EXHAUST valve and seat. That will make white smoke and popping noise also. Do a compression test to know for sure.

Stuck exhaust valve from sitting in the open position for years...
what he said.

That being the case, if stuck down could interfere with the crown of the piston and bend the valve and or punch a hole in the piston, bend the connecting
rod.....................yes??? You guys that have been there done that?

Since I don't have a 250# compression tester, I'd pop the valve cover and have a look at the valve stem positions vs the rocker arms and see if there is a
huge gap between the two on a cylinder. I really like the way Ford designed this 3 cylinder. Makes it sooooo easy to work intakes and exhausts without
getting confused. Makes for good fuel efficient engines too with the smooth cross flow design.

While you guys in the know are looking at this, an OT question.....can the same exhaust maifold be installed pointing up or down......seems like it will mount
either way? My 3910 has it pointing down and exhausting out under the rear axle and I may want to turn it up and vent in front of me........with a larger
muffler!!!!!!

The various 3 cylinder series changed the manifold and where the muffler was positioned a few times. The parts site shows two separate part numbers for the manifolds for a 3910 for vertical vs. horizontal exhaust. The manifold for your horizontal exhaust under the tractor has a round tube cast into it that points down. The one for the vertical exhaust that goes up through the hood has a flat flange on the manifold that the "S" shaped pipe bolts to, and that "S" shaped pipe provides the offset to line up with the hole through the hood. Here's a picture. 6 is the vertical manifold and 7 is the horizontal:

yes sir it definitely was a timing issue I changed all 3 injectors and it still acted the same so I started adjusting the timing and now she purrs like a kitten. Thanks for your advice
