1972 Ford 5000 "LUCAS" Generator question

I've been searching for an OEM-like wiring harness and think I have found one, but the description mentions that it is for tractors with "Lucas" generators.

How would I know the difference? I have replaced the generator that was on the tractor when I purchased it but still have it out in the barn. I've looked for identifying markings, but can't find any. Is there something I can look at that will help to identify the generator?

For what it's worth, the harness part number I am looking at is: C9NN14A103C.

Thank you for any information.

I don't know what other generator besides a Lucas that they might have ever used. There is only one part number for the generator for a 5000 for the entire production run. I always assumed that they only ever used Lucas generators. They do list a kit to convert to an alternator, but that was only done after the tractor left the factory, but maybe the site you are buying the wiring harness from has had issues with folks in the past who had done an alternator conversion complaining that the wiring harness wasn't right for their tractor.

that was the factory generator. There are other knock off generators that also take the same harness, so if you have the generator with the tach drive, that harness will work.

Once again Tractor Guru, my thanks.

In case you haven't figured it out by now, I've gotten a bug up my butt to do a little catch-up work on my 5000. So you'll more than likely see more dumb questions from me popping up.

I think I'll make a post over in the general section so everyone knows what I'm up to.

Thanks

This week I got two tractors in with bad gennys and noticed that I could buy the replacement alternator with tach drive on it with mounting brackets thrown in... for $110 apiece. Thats only a few bucks more than a new generator. They even come with a pass wire to make the red light work, included. I havent had time to put them on yet as they just arrived yesterday. But at that price, with brackets, and wiring harness you have to give them an extra thought.

That's a good deal, I payed more than that without the brackets.
The one issue I've had with the tach drive alternators is the tach now reads fast by 3-400 rpm.
Using my digital tach to get 540 pto rpm the dash tach now shows 2100 on my 5000 and 2200 rpm on my 4000SU.
Not a deal killer, just had to find 540 pto rpm so I'd know where to set the tach when doing pto work.
