Hello I am a newbe to the site. Just bought a master craft forklift it is a 1981 ford 4400 chassis three cyl gas. I ordered a new spindle it is a much lighter duty than the one removed could master craft have replaced the ford with heaver duty due to the large counter weight? or are the new aftermarket ones a little lighter in construction . Both original are cracked! any ideas?

If the originals are cracked, and the new one you got is noticeably lighter duty, I'd be returning it and finding a way to find a heavier one.

Since 4400's were not made after December of 1974 it is either not an '81, or not a 4400 chassis. There should be a Ford Powertrain sticker on the valve cover with the chassis model number, but it's probably long gone. If not look on the transmission housing on the starter side just to the rear and above the starter. There will be a small machined area with stamped in number. Re-post with those and I or somebody else on here will decode it for you.

Checked my cheat sheet, KD2 is a 420 made from 10/75 to 9/78. 445 was KD3, and 445A was KD4. Here is a link to the New Holland online parts book page.

can you email me pics of the spindles I am wondering if master craft replaced original with heaver duty when they made this into forklifts the one I bought from YT is very light duty compared to mine 2/3 the thickness where mine cracked

How many lug bolts are there on your front
rims?
The reason I ask is my friend has a 545. I
have a 4400. He has 8 lug bolts on an 8"
circle.
Mine has 6 lugs on 6" circle.
His hub is much heavier than mine as well.
Yet it looks like the spindles could easily
swapped from his axle to mine.
Same heavy king pin, same lock bolt that
keeps the king pin in place.
I think the number of lug bolts you have
would be an important clue.

So it looks like I have a 1978 ford 420 gasser that has 8 bolt wheels that the 420 didn't come with And all this in a master craft fork truck that Is tagged as a 1981 maybe Johnny cash built it lol
