The 9**1 tractors are probably the best vintage Fords for pulling but they will not pull with the Olivers.

Depends on the rules you have to run but at 3 or 3.5 mph 3500-4500 lbs a 900/901 is very competitive. I?ve pulled both and have won many times against all colors. Motor is a stock 172 with some porting and polishing on the head and turning all the rpms I can out of it. If the rules allow 38 inch rear wheels I would go with them. Finishing up a 671 for my dad to pull now. It?s got a 172 in it with the 4 inch piston kit. Makes it about 181 cubes. I?m painting it now and hope to be done for a pull on September 8th

(quoted from post at 20:43:57 08/28/18) What compression ratio do you run? If more than stock, how did you raise it?

A good way to increase the compression ratio is with a propane head.

Indeed.

I have a NG 192, converted to gasoline.

I believe that the CR is 8.00:1.

I'm sorry that should be 134 propane head which I believe was used on 172 LPGs anyway.
