641 wheel bearings

I'm trying to renew the front wheel bearings on my 641 with HD axel. The old inner bearings were Timken LM 48548s and fit over the spindle axel just fine. I bought a new set of Timken inner bearings LM 48548 and they wont fit on to the axel at all. Do these bearings typically get pressed on? The old ones just slipped off the axel no problem. No mention of what to do in my service manual. Only difference between the old and new is the old were made in the USA and the new are made in Poland. Any thoughts?

Everyone I changed just pushed on unless someone ran it till the wheel fell off and scored the surface. Clean all the grease off and feel for burrs, emery cloth might clean it enough. Could also be manufacturing off of tolerance. You might need to measure with a dial caliper. The proof is in the puddin.

My guess is your new bearings don't meet the spec they're supposed to. I'd take 'em back and try a different pair. you may have to get them from some other supplier to get a different batch.
