Salvage Lesson

Yesterday I went to a salvage yard to look at a 671 that had been brought in. I expected to find a stripped down wreck and that the yard would charge used
parts prices for anything I wanted. Long and short of it was that it wasn't stripped down and I got some parts that aren't easily found including an intact
center hood panel. That was surprise #1. Surprise #2 was that when I went to pay for all the stuff, they only charged me by the scrap metal per pound
price. I got out of there for a song. I'm sure some of you may have had similar experiences. So I made sure they knew I was interested in any ford tractor
that came in. I figure a lot of these parts are going to get harder and harder to get and we need to rescue all that we can, especially at scrap price.

It doesn't make sense to me that they would only charge you scrap price. Why should they even bother to hang on to it then?

I just priced a SOS tranny at my local bone yard, and they asked a lot more than scrap price for it.

The last stuff I got out of scrap yard was .30 cents a pound. Looked at some whole tractors, same price. Could buy running ones for less.
