What exactly did the sign behind the brush guard say? I can make out something about it being "very rare" and "approximately 11 ever built". It also says "Live Independent PTO", which isn't possible. It was either live or independent, not both. I can make out the word "Trans" at the end of the line that's mostly hidden by the bottom of the brush guard. I think it says "Shift on the fly trans", so it's probably an S-O-S.

I think he's claiming that the 4x4 was made by Ford, but it looks like an Elenco aftermarket 4x4 setup to me. Ford never made any pre-1965 tractors with 4x4 themselves. So the "very rare" and "approximately 11 built" are incorrect.

But it is a pretty tractor nonetheless.

Interesting combo. Not sure how he arrived at the number 11 unless Tony Jacob ran the serial numbers for him. Rare 3 cyl square nose bumper on 4 cyl tin.

The sign also says "ride-o-matic seat". It must be a constantly adjusting micro-prosessor controlled unit, although it sure looks like a rest-O-ride. It also has remote controls which I suppose is possible, because I have seen where Oliver dabbled in it at around that time period, but he probably is referring to the two SCVs. It kind of looks like the owner is not really into tractors, but he bought it like that or bought it and paid someone else to restore it.
Elenco-Fords are not rare in the northeast but the three way combination could be.

I was staring at that pic with my magnifying glass, trying to make out what it said about the trans. I agree that "shift on the fly" looks
right.

The only way I can verify the SOS trans by looking at it from that picture is by the cast in lettering for the ground speed PTO option.

You can see the side profile of the top cover on the transmission, it has that distinct hump in it, sure looks the part.
I have seen an S-O-S with Elenco conversion before, years ago now.

I don't think that is an "original" bumper. The originals horizontal bars protruded out beyond the verticals supports. This one also seems to have the top bar spaced farther up than normal

Yea, neat tractor and pic.

The description is pretty misleading or mixed up for what is there and what all he tries to call it.

Perhaps original, modified a bit to fit Elenco

Hello Kirk , Don? t worry I did not verify any amount of Elenco?s for him especially SOS ?s that is his wishful thinking. Between me and a friend in New Hamshire we have more Heavy Duty Industrial Elenco SOS ?s then his figure right now. As I have said before there is less than 10,000 Elenco?s built in total from the hand built early 8N units to last 3 cyl 4400 and 4500 units. The most common are the 1958 - 1961 Elenco?s with either bolt on front covers or the welded on front covers because those four years are the highest production and highest sales years for Ford Tractors. The late design Cast Axle like this tractor has , my recorded serial numbers to date still show less than 1,000 units built. We will never know actual production figures because all the factory paperwork was lost in a fire in the 1970? s at the factory well before I bought the company in the winter of 1988 / 1989. I also have at least a dozen sets of SOS drive gears on the shelf from tractors I converted from SOS 4x4 to 4 or 5 speed 4x4 because owners did not want the SOS or want to fix it. Thanks Tony
