This is crazy!

Brother bought a 3 cylinder 4000 with diesel engine and Select-O-Speed transmission with the last year or so.

Front of transmission was leaking profusely. Upon splitting, he found the input shaft and TLC splines all but gone. He also found some of the hardware only finger tight and some not much more than that. It appears the leak was caused by missing hardware at the bottom of the pump adapter plate.

I had a good used shaft and he found a good used TLC.

Just as we were ready to replace the pump adapter plate, I looked at it and was shocked to see that it contained no bearing cup (race if you wish) for the PTO front bearing. Oh, the cone or the bearing was there, but no cup and not sure about the seals.

Moral of the story: If one doesn't know how to cook - it's best to stay out of the kitchen.

Any one can cook if they have the recipe and can read .

I purchase the service tech manuals to do the repairs.

Sounds like the basket case I bought. Mine had a shop rag in bottom of case and a snap ring from one of the clutch packs laying in the bottom. The baffling one was that the BOZO had installed a valve body
from the previous generation SOS and not the Direct Drive model. All is well now and it will probably outlive me. Sweetheart of tractor ride tractor with 16.9 rear tires and the high idle screw backed out on
the rossa master!

I agree with Dean, someone took it apart, found out what was wrong, slapped back together and sold.

I got suckered on a WF axle for my MH44 from some member in Illinois the same way.

Possibly. but there was too much undisturbed grease and dirt externally for that to be true, unless the one who did that wasn't the most recent previous owner.

Furthermore, why would someone do that for something so minor as a bearing cup and a few seals? If they were going to do it for the input shaft and TLC, they would not have needed to go to the trouble of opening up the transmission.
