I bought a part for a 4200 from a guy down Elgin TX recently.
We've been talking and texting a bit lately and I asked to see his tractor.
So he sent me a couple of photos of it.
It's hard to believe it's the same tractor.
Enjoy.

He's put a lot of time and effort (and $$) into it, and it shows. I don't think I've seen that style of fenders on a rowcrop before. If he ever gets sick of it, tell him he could send it my way. :)

Really nice job. I'm not sure I've seen fenders exactly like that.
The don't appear to be 700/900 fenders and don't really look
like the kidney fenders either. Any idea what they were originally?

"I would not have painted the radiator hose, battery cables, or fuel filters if it were mine."

Nor would I. I also would have chosen different colors. Each to their own I guess. :)

I do agree wirh doing a little more taping off or removing components. I would not do it that way.
And... The color is wrong.
It's still a nice transformation from what it was.
Royse, the fenders are original elephant ears from an AP 4000/5000.

I agree with that. I'll have to pay more attention on those fenders.
The N's, x00, x01, prior x000 and my 3000's didn't seem to match.
Thanks for the info and the pics!

Looks better than it did, but I believe he should have went with a darker shade of blue, not nit picking though, he did a good job, big improvement

No doubt there?s a lot of time and effort between the photos. But for me, I?d rather see a mechanical restoration less the paint if the correct color can?t be used.

Maybe he was going for "original Ford blue that has been faded by years in the sun". Hard for me to tell exactly what shade of blue it is though, as I have mild color blindness, but even my eyes can tell it's not the same blue as most Ford tractors I've seen from that era, whether original faded paint or a fresh repaint.

There is a brochure I have seen before that shows them. I have seen a few that way too. Also my dad started at the local Ford dealer in 66 and he said one of his first jobs was driving a 4200 in a parade and he said it had the round fenders. I?d say they weren?t made that way very long. Do you know when the 4200 came out?

That looks like Rustoleum Safety Blue, which is just about a perfect match for Miller (welder) blue. It's what I used on a Miller Trailblazer 55D that I once owned. It was recommended to me by a Miller dealer because it was much less expensive than the paint sold by Miller.

From looking at the parts site it says the rounded fenders were only used on the 4200 from 1/1/66 through 3/31/66.

Thanks.
Production on those new fenders likely
didn't keep up with the rest of the tractor
so they ran with what they had for a few
months.
Were these fenders used on any other models
besides the row crops?
They were slow on the 6000 fenders too so
they added a block under a set of Hundred
series fenders which they had previously
discontinued.

Yes.

A 68, 4000 utility SOS that I once owned has clam shell fenders as pictured.

Other than the 4/5/7000 row crops the first flat top fenders I remember came out on the -600 series
MIL's 5600 has flat tops, the flat tops on my 4000 came from a 4600.
the -000 series row crop flat top fenders are different from the later -600 series flat tops.
