NAA live PTO

Not from the factory. There was an aftermarket add-on that sort of made it a live pto, by putting a clutch in front of the pinion. It was operated by a small hydraulic pump and a hand lever. I've seen a couple...none that still work.
Factory live pto was an option starting in '55 (model year '55... production started in late '54) on 5-speed tractors. 4-speeds Fords of any age were transmission pto (or no pto) from the factory.

As fordfarmer said, it was basically a pinion clutch. The naa model was hydraulic, the 8n had a manual lever one... I bet an industrious person could make an 8n live pto work in a naa.

There is an interesting pdf on the web for the NAA power takeoff kit. I can't post a direct link (YT blocked site) but copy an paste the following into a Google search and you will find it.

Like Fordfarmer, I've seen a couple. None still worked and parts have been unavailable for decades.

You will find that links to any of the sometimes very useful materials on the N Board are blocked here.

As others have said, aftermarket. Some pics of one I removed.

I have two of them, a '53 and a '54. I have had the Jubilee working and it worked good, then I let it set a few years and it does not work now, something simple I'm sure. The '54 had a stuck motor when I got it and haven't started on it yet.
In the late '50's my dad tried bailing hay with a PTO baler, pulling it with a NAA and that didn't work of course. He looked at buying a 860 from our local Ford dealer and wound up buying a Case baler with a 2-cylinder Wisconsin on it and used that for years. If he had known of the live PTO for the NAA I think he would have considered adding that to his tractor.

For lack of better terminology, that's probably good enough. Probably not too successful because of the hydraulic pump had a tendency to be out of prime and not known because of low usage. Thus that little pump run a good share of its life with out oil. But some emery paper and two new seals ,from NAPA ,seem to get them going, at least in my particular cases.
