Hi Folks,
I've got a question about my 1963? Ford 4000 gas burner tractor. The model # is 41201 & the serial # is 7803.
I have a lever on the left side facing forward that moves forward & back but does not pull out. It really doesn't seem to have any affect on
speeds in any of the four forwards or one reverse. It matches the Sherman levers in images if it's googled but doesn't have a detent as far
as I can tell. I'll attach a picture if I can.
PS: I was told by previous owner that he had the understanding that this was some sort of "highway gear" of some sort but this was his dad's
old tractor & he really didn't know for sure.
Thanks in advance for all replies !!!

It is most likely a Sherman combination. I doubt if any OD Shermans were sold that late.

Of course, it could be one of the much less common reversers or, UD units but unlikely.

Are you CERTAIN that it will not pull to the side when in the center position?

Thanks for responding Dean !
No sir, I'm not 100% sure about it pulling out to the side but tugged on it pretty good. Also seems like it only has a front & back position with no detent in the middle. I think I'm gonna pull the top plate off the transmission to see if I can see more about the workings inside. I'll post whatever I discover.
Thanks again !!!

You won't see much under the transmission shift cover, the sherman goes in the bell housing, it sets below the steering housing.Easy to tell if it's a reverser.

Thanks oldseabee !
I might just have to pull the steering housing to see what?s
down in the hole !!!
Thanks again !!!
PS: nice pics ! My 1st time ever seeing anything like this. Not
familiar with these old tractors very much but starting to take a
real liking to them. I?ve bought up several over the last few
years & just now getting some free time to try & get them into
decent shape ! Got an old 2000 as well but it?s a plain Jane.
