How much diesel

Ford 2000; 3 cyl. Diesel; 8/2 trans.....I think I keep about 3 gallons of diesel in the tank of my tractor and it will probably take a pretty good while to run thru that small amount. Thinking long term, should I keep the tank mostly full to prevent problems? by the way, I put the Sta-Bil diesel fuel additive in my 5 gallon cans of diesel since it's supposed to extend the life and has additives that are supposed to be good for the fuel. Thanks.

Will fill it up this weekend and keep it that way. Thanks for the information.

By the way....with my gas tractor, I have a habit of shutting off the gas tank valve when I've finished for the day so that a faulty float valve will not flood the engine with fuel.

Should I do the same with the diesel and for a similar reason? I assume there is no float involved with the diesel fuel system but wondered if there is some other reason to shut off the fuel flow.

Thanks.

I have a good habit of turning off the gas on my ford n's but I often jump on and and forget to turn on the gas and I get about 6 feet and stop. I
sure wouldn't want to do that with my ford 1710 / diesel or I would be bleeding the system.

I've done the same with my gas tractor - forget to turn on the gas - and it'll run our of gas every time. I added a shut off valve to my Snapper riding mower right after trying to crank it and it pumped oil and gas out of the muffler. The mechanic said the float had stuck open so a full tank of gas had flowed into the engine and flooded it totally. What a mess. That experience helps remind me to cut off the tank valve on my gas tractor which could make an even larger mess. I'm happy to hear that I can leave the fuel valve open on my diesel Ford. Thanks.
