when a 401 ag (non sleeved) motor has been fitted w/ a non flange on top & a bottom groove for the liner, down the road when the next rebuild comes along, how does one remove the liner ? a regular sleeve puller from bottom will not work. thanks

I have removed sleeves like that by heating the sleeve red hot in a strip about 1 inch wide top to bottom It does not have to hot the whole leight at one time and let cool. If it doesn't loosen up repeat on the other side.

The type sleeve you refer to is an unfinished sleeve and the new one has to be bored to size anyway. Why would you want to remove the old one if you don't have the equipment to bore the new sleeve being put in? That is all work for a well equipped machine shop. They will simply bore it out and press a new one in and bore it to size. My machinist uses a thick wall sleeve that can actually be bored to .020 over and still be good.
