Steering cylinder rebuild

I have a 1974 Ford 2000 Diesel that needs the steering cylinders rebuilt. I have the kit #1101-0990 that is the correct size for the rod, but is nothing like what was existing. I can see no way that this will work. Any ideas where I can find the correct parts to do this job? It has 5/8 rods. I know that Miller Bearings carries the seal, and the O-rings. But the spacer or back up ring doesn't seem to exist. Any ideas would be appreciated. Still waiting for parts to put my 64 gas 2000 back together.

I think the oem rod size for all the small Ford models with wish bone front axle - from about 1956 to 1980 or even later was 7/16 or maybe 1/2". So if yours is in fact a 3 cyl 74 2000 with a 5/8" rod something isn't right there. The 2000/4000 4 cylinder light industrial models used a 5/8 rod as did the 3 cyl 3400 and 4410 utility models.
I wonder if you have original cylinders or maybe have aftermarket replacements.
Post a good photo of one of your cylinders so we can ID what you are working on.

Replaces original part numbers D4NN3A540A (right hand) and D4NN3A547A (left hand). This is the same cylinder sold here. Shaft measures .625 5/8 unless my math is wrong, Wouldn't be the first time. LOL

Unless I spend the time to go look them up (which I'm not willing to do at the moment) those part numbers mean nothing to me.
It sounds like you have aftermarket cylinders but a photo would tell us conclusively.

It has a circlip and a seal #604261 then a backup ring and an o ring in the gland nut. that back up ring was in many pieces and the seal was split. Just trying to find if there is a kit to rebuild this.

If your cylinders have 5/8" rods, then they are not original. They were offered by Ford as a HD replacement through the parts system though.

Suggest visiting your local hydraulic cylinder repair shop. A good one should have what you need in stock.

Okay, Those are aftermarket cylinders.
I have those 5/8 ones on my 3000 - I adapted them on - but have never had to open them.
Not much help here. Sorry but at least we know what you are working on now.
The original cylinders were welded shut and not openable to get at the internals.

Found that these are made by Stevens Lake Tractor, or distributed by. Still looking for more info. They are rebuildable if you can find the parts.

(quoted from post at 21:02:34 08/04/18) Hate to think that I may have to go to the Ford New Holland dealer. Maybe Monday will tell.

Since multiple people have already told you that a cylinder with a 5/8" rod was not stock on the power steering on that tractor, I doubt that a New Holland dealer is going to be able to help you. The best thing to do is take the cylinders to a local hydraulics shop and let them source the parts. They will probably be cheaper than any you might get from a new Holland dealer even if the dealer is able to get you the correct parts.

Went by the New Holland stealer just to see if they carried the kit. $90+ for a kit, need 2. Went to 3 Hydraulics shops and ordered the outer seal online. Total cost for kits for both cylinders....$63. Back in business now. Thanks to all for help.
