New starter

New starter going on the 960
today. Tractor in it's working
clothes, so should I paint new
starter red? That would be
correct? Opinions......

they were assembly line painted, so yeah.. red. If it's still in it's working clothes, I'd leave the starter in ( probably) black like it comes from the builder. But that's just my opinion.

Yep. New one is black. If I paint it red it sure would stick out!! Maybe if I ever paint the tractor.....

Yes, they were red from the factory, and most of mine are red or blue, but it is dependent on what is going on when it comes back from the shop.

Old starter was getting slower and
slower. Then it smoked pretty good
and just clicked. Light tap with a
hammer and it started one last
time! Worth rebuilding? Tractor
is 12 volt. Old starter had 6V
written with paint marker on the
inside face. I don't guess that
made much difference?

I'd rebuild the old one. If nothing else, it's a good spare.
Probably needs brushes and bushings.
Color was red originally but totally up to you at this point.
