600 over heating

Has anyone had their 600 over heat. My radiator seems to be good
and is about 20 yrs old. Water pump also about 20 yr old with no
noise or leaks. Coolant level stays the same. Runs just at the
red line, but does not boil over. I'm thinking maybe changing the
thermostat since it is probably the one that came in it in 1957.
Your thoughts appreciated.

Replacing the thermostat is an excellent idea. If the problem persists replace the temperature gauge. The old one may not be accurate. Replacement is not costly and is not difficult.

I would check the real temperature before changing anything.

I changed the thermostat on an 801 to a 195, it ran in the red, took a 180 to get it in the green.

Check the temp first with an IR thermometer. They are not expensive and are useful for many things.

I bought a new thermostat from NAPA and ordered
a new gauge from YDT. Hope this takes care of problem.
Thanks for your help.

I had the same problem with my 960. it would get up to the red line except when it was 95 or hotter then it would creep up. I drained the radiator and flushed it 3 times with distilled water and vinegar, used the power washer to wash out the radiator coils, after that it never got over 1/2 way unless it was over 95 then still didn't get to the red line. you could see the temp drop when the thermostat opened. id try that first.
