Running 6'rotary cutter. Heavy fescue, weeds and mixed grass, had cut about 5 acres with no problems hit a heavy
patch of fescue and PTO quit turning. It now will not engage. Lever moves to engaged position but Pto does not
engage. What do I look at first? This is an independent PTO.

My first guess is low/no hydraulic pressure to the pto clutch.
I've never worked on one that new.
I did have to sort out why the Ipto on a 4000 didn't work. It was all explained in the I&T manual- how to hook up a guage to check the pressure coming out of the pto on/off valve. Had to pull the lift cover to check the pressure.
It wasn't too hard to figure out with the manual in hand - even for a carpenter...

Hmmm....are you saying that the PTO will not drive ANY load? I really doubt that a hydraulic malfunction is going to give you a night and day difference like that. It's almost like something broke inside.

That's what I'm saying. Doesn't even attempt to turn when the lever is moved to the engage position.

Does the PTO turn at all with nothing hooked to the shaft? If you lost all hydraulic pressure, it should turn slowly from clutch plate drag. If it's locked in place, it would seem that the control valve spool is not being shifted from off to on. Does the engagement lever feel normal?

Still got the bush hog connected, will disconnect and let you know. Lever operation feels normal.

Bern, disconnected the bush hog, engaged pto lever and saw the shaft jump. Moved the lever a couple times and shaft started turning, wedged a 2x4 against the shaft and could not stop it. Disengaged the lever and now it will not engage. Seems like something is going on with the linkage or the control valve. I will pull the top cover and have a look unless you have any other suggestions. Thanks.
