finding an electronic ignition for '63 ford 2000

Can anyone say whether the one in the link is the right one? It says it's for the Ford 2000 (with 134ci engine)... But I don't know how to verify that ours has the 134ci engine. I do know that it has 4cyl, and is a 1963 ford 2000 with 6v negative ground. This ...might... be a serial number.
65932
21201
(just about illegible)
One that may or may not fit

Any 4 cylinder 2000 with a gas engine has a 134 ci engine.

21201 is your model number. It is a 4 cylinder general purpose ag chassis 2000 series with a 4 speed transmission and transmission driven (non-live) PTO.

65932 is the serial number, It is a 1964 serial number.

That tractor originally had a 6 volt positive ground electrical system The fact that it currently has a 6 volt negative ground system just means that the battery is hooked up backwards from the original plus hopefully the generator was polarized properly to the new relative ground. If it was never polarized properly when it was switched to negative ground then the battery wouldn't be getting charged when the tractor is running.

I?m not a fan of putting EI on 6V systems and here?s why.
EI is sensitive to voltage drop. Voltage drop from excessive starter draw or cable/connection resistance can be sufficient to cause the EI not to function. EI is often installed on machines with weak starters, crappy cables and generally poorly maintained electrical systems. So many are predisposed to excessive voltage drop. There?s less ?room for error? with 6V systems than 12.

I think RickB is right. You would be better served to convert to 12 volts. Initial costs are offset by better performance and easier part location. I did it to my Cousin's Super C Farmall. It is not always easy to find 6 volt car batteries these days and the choices are limited. Finding electronic ignitions for 12 volt systems is much easier. Negative ground and a 12 Delco type alternator like YT sells is all you need along with 12 volt accessories (bulbs) etc. I am not sure what kind of gauges the 63 ford 2000s have.

Wrong kit your tractor is 6v pos ground it will use 1244AP6 If you go it 12v neg ground system ( most 12v alternators ) use kit 1244A It is important to use the coil Petronix call for if going 12v.

"important to use the coil Pertronix calls for" What is it one should be watching for as I have yet to change a coil on several installations.

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

Since some have had trouble using electronic ignition with 6v due to voltage drop issues, I guess I'll stick with points
for the time being. I'll probably convert to 12v eventually, and look at going electronic then.
