Did a 680 ever exist?

I have this tractor I just picked up with a 600 nose badge and the serial number doesn?t match to anything I can find online. It also has what appears to me to be a 680 above it - image attached. I just want to know what I have, I?ve never been around tractors before a few weeks ago. It has 5 speed plus reverse & live PTO. My google searching has hit abroad block

The 8 as the middle digit didn't happen until the S-O-S transmission came out during the '01 series tractors, so there was no such thing as a 680. A 600 series with 5 speeds plus reverse and live PTO would be a 660. It does look like it's stamped either 630 or 680 though. As I said, there was no such thing as a 680, and a 630 would be a 4 speed with 3 point hydraulics but no PTO.

The two 8s in the serial number don't match what you are calling an 8 in the model number, at least to my eyes.

More I?ve been looking at it I think you?re right I?ll be cleaning it
up to paint and take a closer look then. Either way it runs
great and we?re happy with it.

That second s/n digit looks to me to be the numeral "3". The first digit could be an "8" though. What size engine do you have? The 600 Series would have the 134 CID Red Tiger OHV engine. An 800 Series would have the 172 CID Red Tiger OHV engine. Either one, the second digit '3' would indicate a 4-speed trans and no PTO. HTH...

Hey Tim, so I am really green in knowing anything about tractors. Im second guessing myself on the live PTO comment, but I haven?t been out to the place im keeping it to look since I?ve posted this. I know it has the 5 gears plus reverse in the up and down shifter configuration and all 5 are printed on the transmission casing so I know it wasn?t added aftermarket. Again another dilemma because that rules out a 630 right? So I can also see a 5 there if I squint ... so maybe a 650? I?m headed there today or tomorrow to confirm by checking the PTO and seeing if it is actually double clutch or transmission PTO.

I?m also trying to find information about the loader side connection on the bucket I want to get a quick attach adapter but I can?t find specs on what I have - I have the actual measurements but everywhere selling adapters only references the style of connector, like JD / Global Euro etc. any suggestions?

If it's got a 5 speed transmission, then it is either a 650 or a 660, as those were the only models in the 600 series that had a 5 speed. The 650 has transmission driven (non-live) PTO and the 660 has live PTO.
