OT - Poulan chain saw woes!

Trying to get my son's Poulan Pro 36cc saw running. It starts good but dies when you pull the throttle. If you throttle up slowly it will accelerate, but will not stay running at higher rpm's. Any thoughts???

Sounds like an air leak! Base gasket, intake boot, impulse line, fuel line. Just a few things to check.

I had a green Poulan that would run but not rev up like it should. Pulled the muffler off and cleaned it out. There were a couple of small slits where exhaust came into the muffler so I took a screw driver and enlarged them slightly.

Might check the lines going to/from the primer bulb. My Poulan is one of the green models (not a pro), replacing a loose fitting line corrected a similar problem on mine.

You are getting some very good ideas here, I have done most of them on my poulan saws. Before you take it apart try enriching the LOW idle screw 1/4 turn. An Echo salesman told me that and it fixed the problem. My 85 hp Mercury outboard always sputtered when I advanced the throttle quickly, opened the LOW idle 1/2 turn and no more sputtering. You can find the complete tune-up kit on amazon for the Poulan saws. Fuel line, bulb, fuel filter, air filter and spark plug. Pay the extra $$ and get the ethanol-free gas.
