I just bought a ford 3000 that are believed to be a 1968 model. The serial number begins with an a. From everything I find this means it was manufactured in Belgium. I find that hard to believe. It has the 8-speed tranny and live PTO. Not sure about the diff lock yet. I'll get some pics up as soon as I can.
The numbers are:
6J27C
J286
A141-855
It has a shift issue where the shifter comes out of the shift forks and jams up. It has the stamped steel shift plate. The fellow I bought it from said he was told that the shifter plate assembly was worn and needs replacing. Anybody have experience with this? I've searched and searched and haven't found anything posted about a similar issue.
It jammed up on him when he was trying to back it off the trailer, but he was snatching and jerking the shifter when it happened and he had the shifter plate bolted on loosely like he'd just pulled it off and had just started the bolts in the holes. I pulled the plate off and got it lined back up. The end of the shifter and the shift forks don't look too bad to me. I haven't had time to mess with it much yet, but in the short time I've messed with it, if you're careful and shift it gently it does OK.
