Price for an 841 Elenco

I know tractor prices have been quite low the last few years. I
am going to list my Ford 841 Elenco for sale and was
wondering what I should be asking? It?s an 841 4 speed with
Sherman, 3 pt, pto and power steering. I just replaced seals,
bushings and new fluid for the Elenco axle. Transmission
won?t go into 1st or 3rd, worked fine in the fall, I took it out of
storage this past month and doesn?t seem to want to go into
these two gears. Everything else works as it should. Your
input is appreciated. Located near Albany NY.

I wouldnt know but you need to put an OEM steering wheel on it. It looks like the style that lets water down the tube and will cause rust around the upper seal on the p/s.

It is too bad that you didn't sell it 8-10 years ago when those were brining a lot. Even though it has transmission problems and thin tires, I'll give you $1500 for it. I'll be there at 9:00 tonight.

I can't really help you on the price in your area.
Looks like it has pie weights and chains. Those are a bonus.

The transmission not going into first or third is likely just a spring.
They break under the cover and get in the way of shifting.
I think it was a $5 fix on my 8N with basically the same shifter.

Sure wish it were closer to me!

Tractor prices are down, you're right about that. Elenco tractors seem near impossible to price however. They are all over the map. People do want them though, so I'd start with an optimistic price. Sherman, pie weights, it runs, all good. If it were mine I might start around $4000 and see if anyone bites.

Can't help much with price but you will take a big hit unless you first fix the shifter.

I agree. Fix the problem with the shifting and you should be able to get between $3500 and $4500 for it. Without fixing the trans first you are looking at $2500 tops and probably less. People don't want to hear "It worked properly before I parked it". To most potential buyers that means that they might need to replace whatever isn't working, in this case the transmission, and will reduce their offering price by what they estimate it would take to do that.

They are certainly different from your usual 30 pounders or even the usual forty pounders, but even though they are an unusual shape they could still be forty pounders. Pie weights were produced by regional foundries so there were lots of differences.

I'm also thinking that maybe the rear centers are dished out so the weights stick out farther than they usually do because most people mount them with the centers dished in.

They are industrial pie weights made for the 24" rims. Here is a set of HD's on one of my elenco's.

If the center disc is positioned right the outer lip of the pies will sit right against the rim. see my photo.

I would think somewhere around $4000/ $4500. I helped sell one for a friend a couple of years ago. Bought 6K. Was diesel and done up nice. I would have though it would have bought more but it didn't. Another friend bought a HD 4000 with elenco and backhoe last week for $2900. Ten or fifteen years ago that were bringing $18K/$20K on Ebay, not so today. Guess I should have sold mine years ago. I know someone looking for one in the NY/vermont area looking for a worker like your. Send me an email and I'll send contact info maybe you can work it out.
