What is this bolt on the oilpump doing?

Hi guys.

Today my rebuild engine had it's first test, oil pressure while cranking. No oil pressure came, so i searched this forum, and many said "prime the pump" so I did. And boom, 50psi pressure while cranking :)

But in the "no pressure" confusion, my thoughts went to the oilpump. I bought a brand new one, and remembered seeing that it had a threaded hole for a bolt. The old pump had a bolt with a bit washer on it, threaded into that hole. But none of the drawings online or in the manual showed this bolt:

So I didn't put it in the new pump. What is that bolt for?
Its this one:

Do I need to take off the oil sump and put it in the new pump?

The plug above that bolts holds the pressure relief valve in place and it looks like the bolt/washer may be there to hold the plug in place. Since there's no mention of that bolt in the parts diagram it's possible it was added later due to a design issue, or may just be there as a "just in case" if the plug ever loosens and tries to fall out.

Don't worry about it the plugs in the new pumps don't need the bolt and washer.
My new pump didn't have one ether, haven't had any issues with the pump in the 350 hrs of use so for.

I'd put it in myself. If that plug ever pops out, it's all over for your engine in a few minutes time unless you happen to spot the red
light.

I thought more about this issue. If you look in the 4000 parts catalog, it's there (link below). If Ford took the time to put it there, it must have been because they were not 100% sure of the plug staying in place. It's cheap insurance.

But not in the new models.. Ill give it a oil change after 10hrs, and put it in then :)
