Warning for anyone replacing water pump on 2000/3000 3cyl.

One of the factory screws was too long on mine. I swapped them over one at a time from old pump to new, so I know I had them in the right place. Took a closer look and the new pump (Complete with flimsy aluminum casting and janky plastic impeller) has a boss for this screw about 1/4" shorter than the original piece. Only this one boss is shorter, the rest are the same, even if all the holes are huge compared to the original.

So if your tractor is in a remotish location save yourself a trip and take a 3/8-16 x 2-3/4 along with you. May want to grab a 2-1/2 as well just to be sure.

Sounds like it's the pump, not the bolt, that is the
problem. Every pump I've replaced on a '65-up Fod
has been a cast iron housing with a cast iron
impeller.

I did one on my 2000 4 cyl several years ago, www purchase and it was CI, CI. No problems. After 3800 hrs and '63, 73, 83, 93, 03, 13, 18........55 years the bearing (sleeve) finally gave out and it started wobbling.

Ya it's pretty low quality. We'll see how long it lasts. Original lasted 50 years, maybe this one will last, oh, idunno, about two weeks? I'm going to pull the seals and bearings from the old one and see about sourcing new parts. If it's regular lip seals and ball bearings shouldn't be hard to replace. That way I'll have a spare on hand when the China/ India wonder falls apart.

I replaced water pump in a 3000 about five years ago just before I sold it and the replacement water pump was cast, and it didn?t have a plastic impeller either, I can?t imagine an aluminum pump with plastic in it.i believe I would have bought from somewhere else before putting that on.

Where did you get that aluminum/plastic water pump at.
I'd be warning folk not to purchase that pump rather than advising them to get a shorter bolt.

UNLIKELY it has "lip seals and ball bearings", in the conventional sense of the terms, but NO PROBLEM... the outfit linked below will have the specialty parts it needs.

Anyone have a problem with the bolt pattern for the fan being 1/8" smaller than the one that was on the tractor. I have a new water pump with that problem.

I?m like Rick, don?t know where you?re getting these, but there is no way I?d go to all the trouble to replace one with junk. A new one from Ford is
only $100, for a repair most of us won?t be around long enough to do again. I hope your plastic impeller one comes with a discount radiator
coupon, because I?m betting the fan will be going through it in the future! Some things you just don?t want to be cheap on, engine, cooling, and
fuel come to mind, you will get exactly what you paid for.

Ya, I'm gunna take my licks for buying the cheapest junk I could find. Pinched the penny a bit too tight and it bit me. I really should put new hoses on anyway, the ones on it look kinda ratty. I'll buy a good pump.
