steering cylinder leakage

Got a pretty good leak on the steering cyl. On my 69 Ford 4000. Not having any luck finding a seal kit to rebuild it. YT website doesn't list parts for it but I see it on the New Holland site. Wondering if any body recognizes the cylinder??

Also dealing with the welded on muffler somebody cobbled together
Found a sooty 17mm wrench in the manifold

(quoted from post at 22:10:42 06/30/18) That is the standard factory power assist steering cylinder for an early 3-cylinder 4000.

Where do i get a rebuild kit for it?

I put all new seals in one of those a few
years ago. Got everything from new holland
but not as a kit per se - all individual
parts.
I wonder why you have a 4600 style exhaust
manifold on a 4000.

if you have a local hyd shop that rebuilds cylinders i would just take it there and they can rebuild it for you. will probly have the correct seals instock.

As wlf89 said, the easiest thing is to take the cylinder to local hydraulic shop and let them source the seals and rebuild the cylinder.

If you still want to purchase an original seal kit then you need to go to an authorized New Holland dealer. This site (Yesterday's Tractors) is not an authorized New Holland dealer and only has after market parts for Ford tractors available.

According to the New Holland parts site the seal kit for the cylinder was originally part number CFPN3301A which has been superseded by part number 82848507, which is still available from any New Holland dealer or on line at Partspring.com or Mecssicks.com.

There's a separate seal kit for the control valve at the back end of the cylinder which was originally part number DCPN3302A which has been superseded by part number 81826712 which should also be available (but I can't say so for sure) at any New Holland dealer or on line at Messicks or partspring, as those two are authorized New Holland dealers that also sell things on line.

I usually check whether a part is still available via partspring's web site, because Messicks will tell you "3-5 business days" as the availability even on lots of parts that are not actually available. Unfortunately partspring's site is down right now so I can only tell you for sure that the cylinder seal kit is truly still available as Messicks shows that they actually have one in stock, but they show "3-5 business days" on the seal kit for the control valve and partspring's database is down so I can only assume that the second one is still available.

If you end up needing a cylinder let me know, I've got a couple of them along with the correct lines.
That's a 4600 manifold, don't think the outlet lines up with the hole in a 4000's hood.

I'll have to double check, but I think Luke's 4000 has that style exhaust manifold, too. But with a pipe going straight up, rather than goosenecking forward like a 4600's.

That won't work ether, the hole in a 4600 hood is farther forward than one on a 4000.

They sell the correct manifold on this site.

C5NE9430E- Manifold $45
C5NE9430A- Gasket $4
D0NN5B255D- extension pipe $15
C7NN5230M- Muffler $30

For $100 you'll have a complete new exhaust system that fits

I just put the hood on and it looks like the hood is off at least 1" approx.

Think I will be buying a complete new exhaust system

the stick is centered in the exhaust manifold hole

As simple as that side arm ps system was to
reseal I wouldn't have a shop do it for me.
Most of what you need is just a few seals
which weren't expensive from cnh. The rod
seal was a bit pricey but not too bad.
The only thing I remember being hard about
it was trying to use compressed air to blow
a little plunger out of the control valve.
You need 3 hands - one on the blow gun and
two to plug a couple of ports to blow the
plunger out. My neighbor plugged one hole
with his finger and I did the rest.

Yep UD I am quite capable of doing it myself once I get the parts

Got a seal kit coming tomorrow from Messicks. Got the cylinder mostly all torn apart. Hoping it goes smoothly....any more tricks of the trade to rebuild this cylinder???
