been noticing my power steering is getting weak. as i use the tractor and it warms up it gets worse and worse. im guessing the pump is wore out.

1. would everyone agree with that by the symtoms?

2. if so are they usually rebuildable or wore out to point needs replacing?

3. i can get a kit for 12 or the oem for 56. is the aftermarket ok?

Yes, based on my past experience, it's most likely the pump. That said, it could be worn or blown seals. Remove and disassemble first before
ordering a seal kit, as you might need the complete pump if the bearings/housing are trashed.

If your loosing fluid, a seal kit may help, but otherwise, your pump is normally worn and will need replacing. Just in my experience. good luck either way.

There's no kit for a worn pump, only for a leaking pump and filter replacement.
Their simple pumps, if you dissemble it and don't find a bunch of wear the problem is else where.

What oil are you using in it, automotive power steering fluid is not the recommended oil.

If you decide to replace the pump, make sure your after market pump matches the GPM and PSI relief pressure of the original pump.

its not leaking externally anyway and fluid level isnt going down, im using the hy trans fluid, thats correct isnt it?

so guess i will have to buy a pump sounds like from yalls experience, wont hurt to take it apart first and see what old one looks like dont guess.

i just googled the part number thats on my pump (E6NN3K514ab99M) and i only got one result and it shows it crosses to part number 83960261. does anyone have a way to confirm that?

Does your tractor have a power steering sector with the steering arm on the left side or hydrostatic steering with the cylinder in the front.

it has the hydrostatic steering with the cylinder in the front.

On the hydrostatic models when the steering gets weak the first thing I check is the steering cylinder, when the packing gets worn they start bypassing.

Normally if the pumps weak (low pressure) the steering gets hard.
If the cylinder starts bypassing the steering wheel turns as normal but the wheels don't what to turn.
The steering motor doesn't give much trouble.

Hydrostatic models use pump number E6NN3K514AB that crosses to 83960261
The E6NN3K514PA99M pump crosses to 82858430 for the non hydrostatic models
This pump as a lower pressure relief valve.

Is it possible the pumps been replaced at some time with the wrong one.

on mine it all works good when first crank it and as you use it the steering wheel gets harder and harder to turn.

That does sound like a pump issue.
What oil are you using, it should be the same as what you use in the hydraulics, but some use the same motor oil as they use in the engine.

Does it look like the pumps been replaced before.

The number on the pump itself isn't necessarily the part number used to order one form the parts department. The actual part number for a 6610 p/s pump depends on what year the tractor was made.

For a 6610 made between 1/1/81 and 3/31/85 (non hydrostatic), the part number was originally E6NN3K514PA99M which has been superseded by part number 82858430. A re-manufactured one would be 82858430R.

For a 6610 made on or after 4/1/85 (hydrostatic steering) the original part number was E6NN3K514AB which has been superseded by part number 83960261. A re-manufactured one would be 83960261R.

i use the same oil as the hyd oil. as far as being changed id say no time recently from the looks of it could be original. ive had tractor little under yr now, so cant really say.

Just so we're clear here, you've had it a year and just recently it started getting weak? Could just be the filter needs to be changed. I would try changing the fluid and filter and see if that helps before replacing the pump.

no i have just started using it enough to know of the problem.
