Alternator question

The 3 wire alternator has finally
crapped out on the 640. I want to
replace with a 1 wire. Where does
that wire go? Amp gauge has never
worked. Even after we got a new
one. Would like it to work.

Run a 10 gauge wire straight to the positive post on battery, here is a pic of my Dad?s 601 Ford tractor I converted to 12 volt for him before he passed, didn?t want to cut hole in dash for an amp gauge and he wanted to know it was charging

If you had a working 3 wire why do you want to go to a 1 wire.

Non working amp gauge could be wired incorrectly. Output of alternator goes to one side of ammeter, other side to starter solenoid with big battery cable.

Lights and ignition switches power from the alternator side of ammeter.

I?ve got four tractors that currently have one wire alternators on them, never had a problem keeping the batteries charged, have owned other tractors in the past with 1 wire alternators too, never had an issue with any of them. A lot of the old school hot rodders have used them for many years

big wire goes same place on 1 wire, just do not hook the other two up.

Yep, I put a 1 wire in a '55 Olds years ago. Worked like a charm.

The one wire off the new alt goes to the gauge, then to the positive battery post. Not sure which gauge works best with a one wire alt.

So where do the rest of the wires go? Key switch has wire from alternator,wire to solenoid,wire to amp gauge,and wire to coil. Amp gauge has wire to alternator, wire to solenoid,wire to gas gauge,and the one back to key switch. I'm flailing around! Lol.

ummm? Maybe you don't have a 600? Don't remember them having a fuel gauge?

JMOR, serial number is 640. But
some sheet metal is off 8*1.

I plan to come Saturday morning but not bring a load of goods. All the loading/unloading wears me out too bad. I'll be glad to bring something for you tho. You talking about pan seats with the curved bar spring under it?

Yes. We want to build a ride along seat for tractor rides.plan to have a guy at church weld up something to go on our 3 point receiver hitch. Shoot me an email with the price. Really want 2 Ford and maybe a farmall cub seat. Thanks

for one wire, just ignore Warning Lamp & 1/F, 2/S

Never shows a discharge does it? Amp meeter needs to be between all loads and the battery.

erminal block. Plastic block with two insulated terminals used to join wires.
