1965 Ford 5000 Select O speed Gear selector cable

I have a 1965 Ford 5000 SOS. When I removed the instrument panel cover to replace the start/stop switch, I unscrewed the gear selector cable from the top of the body. The other end of the cable has recessed and I can't figure out how to get it to pop up above the tube so I can make the connection again. I have a I&T Shop Service manual but no luck.

Is there a way to advance the cable up the tube to access the other end? I believe I read that these to cables thread together somehow. The lower cable is approx. 1/2" below the tube right now.

Help please!
Thanks,
Kyle

If you haven't drained the oil and cleaned the sump screen in some time, why don't you take the opportunity to do that now. At the same time,
you can rotate the cam wheel on the control valve manually and raise the cable back up the conduit.

Thanks for the quick reply. Where do I access this? Is this through the bottom access panel?

I currently have the steering column removed as well (I thought perhaps I could manipulate the cable somehow from here).

Yes, the control valve is in the bottom of the transmission above the access panel.

Do you have the service manual for that tractor? If not, get one and follow the procedures in the manual for doing what you need to do. There is a chance that you might have already caused some harm by removing the gear selector if you didn't follow the proper instructions for doing so.

Yes, drain the oil, remove the dozen or so bolts that hold the bottom cover on, and then the control valve cam will be staring you in the
face.

Thank you so much, I did the repair as you suggested and it's working great again! You save me a ton of headaches and a ton of money!
