Ford 5000 Serial Number decode

I inherited a Ford 5000 tractor from my father. I'm trying to figure out exactly the year/model/etc. I have found tractor model number, tractor number, etc on a label posted under the hood that covers the battery (photo uploaded). I've seen reference to three numbers identifying the tractor posted on the right hand side of the engine block, but I am unable to locate those numbers on this tractor (for example http://vintagetractorengineer.com/2009/01/ford-2000-3000-4000-5000-serial-numbers/). On the label I found, the model is B1017C. According to web sites I've looked at, the "B" would indicate Ford 2000 but the tractor clearly is labelled a Ford 5000 so I'm confused on how to decipher the numbers I have. Is anyone able to decipher the exact build location, date, etc based on the photo I have?[/img]

I am pretty sure that the first letter in the model number is an E. The E has little tails on the ends if the upper and lower horizontal parts that sort of make it look like a B. Look at the B's at the beginning of the serial number and at the end of the Unit Number as a comparison, as those are definitely B's.

E1017C is a general purpose ag chassis 5000 with a diesel engine, Independent 540 rpm PTO and an 8 speed transmission.

B899471 is the serial number. The B at the beginning means it was assembled at the plant in Basildon UK, and the fact that the number starts with an 8 means that it was made to be sold into the "Domestic" UK market. Serial numbers for the Basildon tractors made to be exported started at 000001 in 1965 and went up from there and the domestic ones started at 800001.

Unit Number is the date code for when the tractor was assembled. 1F03B would be June 3, 1971 during the day shift.

Thank you so much! This is very helpful. I agree now that you mention it that it must be "E" not "B" as first letter. Funny it ended up in state of Washington after MFG in UK.

B899471 is the serial number, the B means the tractor was built in Basildon, England.
Your B looks like a E to me
E1017C is the model number
E10 = 5000 all purpose
1 = diesel engine
7 = ? this number is for the pto but there's no 7 in my US Service Manual, another poster recently listed the same 7 in his Basildon built 5000's model numbers, someone with more info on the Euro models may be able to help.
C = 8x2 trans

1F03B is the production date, the tractor was assembled June 03, 1971 on day shift

Hope this helps.
