641 Sediment Bowl Gasket

Is anyone else having sealing problems with rubber replacement sediment bowl gaskets? It's giving me fits. It seems like it should be an improvement, but are they just an inferior substitute for cork gaskets?

Check the edge or rim of your bowl and see if there?s a burr or
rough spot in the glass, I had one that gave me fits one time

That's the first thing I checked. :)

I had a guy refuse to pay the 3 or 4 dollars for an OEM cork gasket the other day. He absolutely couldn?t understand the aftermarket junk he
had been buying was his problem. So he headed down the road to TSC or wherever for another.

Take a critical look at your bowl housing - I have a 960 that been difficult to keep from weeping - I took the assembly off the carburetor for the good cleanup and new gasket and found the housing was no longer round - the tension (and sometimes excessive tension, because what do you do when the bowl is weeping? tighten it up of course) of the bowl harp had deformed the soft metal of the housing and so was causing issues with sealing -

I put the housing in a vice and encouraged it back toward round and it's working OK right now - I also bought a new assembly which I will swap in the next time there's an issue -

I will look at that, thank you.

I bought the neoprene because it seemed like an upgrade. I had two to do, my 641 and 871, and they were selling as a kit with a new screen so it seemed like the way to go. Both of the old cork gaskets came out in pieces so that encouraged me even more. The cork gaskets may not have been reusable, however after all those years they weren't leaking. So one neoprene sealed OK so far and the other was a complete bust.

Thanks for all of the input, I'm still learning something new every day. :)
