881 selectospeed

I have a 881 sos that im going to part out. Is there any value in the trans and rear. I know nothing about the tractor. Thanks for any help. Ed

Like I said I know nothing about the tractor other then it set for 30 years. Its stuck in 1st gear. I bought it for some parts that I need.

I guarantee you one thing . . . it's not stuck in 1st gear! SOS transmissions default to Park when the engine is not running.

I doubt if you can sell parts for much other than scrap iron price if you don't know their condition.

Larry, would that rear end if it is working be a replacement for my 871 if I needed it?

It should be, I'm not exactly sure how they drove the ground speed PTO, though. The 881 rear may have parts in you don't need.

(quoted from post at 21:44:35 06/22/18) The only difference is the Pto. The 881 has 1000 pto and the 871 has the 540.

Not exactly true!

The 871 has only a 540 PTO, The 881 has three different PTO options. It can be a 540, a 1000 or a ground speed PTO. One must change the hollow shaft and the front lever to get from 540 to 1000. He/she must shift the rear lever to change from any engine driven PTO to one driven by the rear wheels and axle assembly.

An 881 transmission came with one option. a 540 PTO a 1000 PTO and a ground drive PTO. Three in one. You could not get one without the other two. The 871 had a 540 PTO only

depends on how one looks at it. Yes, it only came with all 3 PTO capabilities. There was no option as to how it was equipped. However, that gave one three different options as to how he/she wanted to use his/her PTO.

The transmission won't come out of park without the engine running.
To move the tractor without the engine running there's a traction disconnect on the left side near the rear of the foot board.

Remove the bolt, take the retainer off and turn it around so it's sticking out, while rocking the wheels move the lever/retainer backward or forward (don't remember which way), it should move around a quarter turn, this will move the slide coupler in the rear axle disconnecting the trans from the diff.

Afterward you'll have to reengage the disconnect to keep the tractor from rolling off, or you could chock it but don't lose the retainer.
