I have virtually no experience with older Ford tractors. I just bought a 1st year production gas 960 with narrow front, power steering, 5 speed, live PTO and rear hydraulics. Seems to run fine - is there anything I should watch out on early production units? Tractor will be on a 6 ft rotary cutter. thanks.

I have a '56 960. We plow
,disk,mow,box blade,rake, move
dirt with a pond scoop and drag
limbs with it. Had it several
years and just regular
maintenance. Always tinkering with
it. You know odd stuff like
parking brake. And my power
steering doesn't work so that's
next to fix. Absolutely love the
tractor. Also folks at shows love
seeing it and usually have a bunch
of people chit chatting. If it
ain't leaking it's out of oil! Lol

Buddy of mine has a 9*1 mutt ,we go to shows together ,cool to have narrow front and wide front there.
Nothing real special.
The power steering gets leaky.
The clutches wear down and the pto gets hard to engage, as does every machine everywhere wears down....
The brakes weren't that great when new, and that was many decades ago.....
There is a little pin that slides in a grove in the belly of the rear end. After many decades the pin wears down and the 3pt won't lift to position
quite right any more, you lose some fine control.
Was the first tractor I learned to drive; still have it, a 960 with Schwartz wide front. I think dad and I got our money's worth from it.
Dad even got a second one, narrow front With a front mounted cultivator. traded it off after a number of years.
