Ford 600 start over

Hello All, this is my first go reaching out for wisdom on Yt. Thanks for having me! I am new to a lot when it comes to working on these tractors etc but looking forward to learning what I can and being responsible for the well being of my equipment. Last year not knowing much and ignorant I bought what was told to me was a Ford 800 series tractor. The motor turned out to be a 134" sitting on an 800 frame. Again, not knowing much thats what I walked myself into. Everything on this set up has been a mix matched headache. If anything positive has come from this its given me some knowledge and hands on experience. After new pistons, rings, gaskets, carb repair, etc. I am dealing with a rats nest of electrical taped wiring that was called a 12V conversion. Short exciting moments running the tractor has lead to one new underlying issue after another. I would like to take the simplest practical approach to the electrical system from scrtach at this point. If I replace the system with a 12V wiring harness alternator conversion, electronic ignition, and matching petronix coil will that give me a clean start? Thanks for your time and responses!

That was what I did on a 900 I bought with a messed-up wiring harness. Worked well, and wasn't overly expensive.

Thanks for the reply! At this point having dealt with everything so far it just seems the best route going forward with a clean slate. I've been researching which alternator kit to go with and not sure yet. Any recommendations out there?

If you don't want to buy all the pieces individually, check out Genesee Products on the web. I bought the kit from him for a 4000 with everything you mentioned. A bit pricey but everything fit like a glove and never failed to start. Even comes with wiring harness and all connectors. Excellent instructions and customer service. Thinking about going the same route with a 961 but not sure if I want to move away from everything else on it being pretty close to original.
