800 ignition dwell

I know the spec on point gap is .025 but what is a good dwell reading? I know that small block chevys are 30
degrees dwell with a .019 point gap. My meter says "for 4 cyl engine double 8 cyl scale". If I do that the
engine won't hardly run at all!

id you interpret the instructions to mean that if 8 cyl scale shows 30 degrees, then when connected to a 4 cyl engine, if scale shows 30, then the actual dwell is 60 degrees?

35-40 degrees dwell expected on 4 cy. and would indicate about 18 - 20 on your meter scale.
