I can't remember...
Which side goes to the radiator - spring
side or the other side? Doesn't say in the
I&T manual.
Thanks

The pellet needs to be in the liquid to be sensed and since they are placed at the engine, upper radiator hose interface, pellet towards the engine.

I just put a 188 in my newly acquired 3910 because it will be a seldom used tractor and that includes moving hay in the winter. I wanted it to get hot for that. Don't see any hard working of it during hot summer days so I'm not worried about overheating.

So yesterday, high 90's ambient here, I run it up and work it a bit. Get out the non contact IR thermometer and shoot it right behind the fan air deflector shield at the top-front of the head where the water exits. Surface temp was in the mid 180's, interior fluid several degrees hotter like was supposed to be. Went around to the other side and measured the bottom tank of the radiator and it was 102-105. Needle was sitting right at the white/red areas interface. Looks good to me.

Update. Ambient temp high 90's today. Ran 5 hours cutting hay with my drum mower. Temp came up to the "Mason-Dixon" (white-red junction) line and didn't move the whole day. Wink. Going to like this 188 stat. This baby was definitely a rare find and I got to haggle on the price. Wink! Can't buy it if I can't haggle.
