Hi there, I am new to this forum and fairly new to in depthrepairs to my Ford 4000 3cylinder gas tractor with the 8 speed trans.
I recently lost reverse in high and low and it seemingly happened out of nowhere. I had taken the transmission top cover off and made sure all gears are in good condition, plungers and springs and detent balls were okay, but I could not get her to reverse at all. After putting it back together and trying all the speeds, I noticed 4th would not engage and it would pop out when the clutch engaged. Upon further inspection and draining of all hydraulic fluid, I noticed that the selector arm, part 5 in the manual, detached from the 4th and 8th gear shift fork. The fork seems to be resting in the bottomof the pan. I?m guessing this would block the reverse fork from meshing fully with the reverse gear.
My question is, am I out of luck and I?m need of a full split? Or can the fork be replaced or repaired without splitting the bell housing. I would rather not have to go through with that procedure.I have never done a split, but I will do what I need to keep this machine running well.
Another note, is the fork threaded onto the selector arm? Or will they need welding back together?
Thanks for any and all help.
