3610 muffler

Is the horizontal mount (under the left running board), oval muffler noisy by design? This one is 30 years old and may be burned out. Really noisy...gotta wear ear plugs. No external physical damage. Vertical round on my 2000 and 3000 are relatively quiet by comparison...course I know the engine hp is up by 10 but shouldn't make that much difference.

Thanks,
Mark

The horizontal mufflers were usually quieter than the vertical ones, you may be an after market Stanley, or Wrong-Fu rather that an OEM (expensive) Ford/New Holland.

Thanks for the reply. Is the expensive OEM stainless steel with a 5" long, slight deflection tail pipe?

I left the dealership in 2004, but up till them the OEM mufflers were not stainless, and the outlet pipe was not bent but cut at an angle with the "pointy" top rounded down like an inverted measuring spoon. Din't sell many for two reasons, one there weren't a lot of horizontal exhaust machines in our area, and two most customers didn't want the expensive muffler they had me sell them the XXXXXXXXXX-DS (for "drop ship") economy mufflers manufactured by Stanley (decent quality for price).

Thanks again, that's what's on there....I guess it's galvanized steel like the exhaust pipe appears to be. My 2000 is to the rear and the 3000 is in the air. Prefer the out the back except when connecting implements....ways to get around that problem.

I scanned the www pretty good and the best match was C7NN5230G from tractor parts asap. YT parts didn't have one. Only one that had the bracket and the short outlet like mine tending to tell me I may have gotten the best after market match. The rest were like 20 inches or something long like that. $41 + $13 ship. Not bad.

Thanks again.

I put the new one on yesterday. Apparently the old one was still ok. Not much difference. High rate of flow through as Ford diesel engines apparently require. That on a 10" muffler makes it hard to harness the noise. I know about the back pressure on the outlet of these engines. I bought a vertical replacement for my 3000D once and got an IH by mistake. It had back pressure. The engine wouldn't run. Had to knock out the baffles so that I could see through it to get the engine to run.

Years ago my brother needed a muffler for his 5000 with M&W turbo kit, a muffler for a IH was a perfect fit but made it sound like a IH, we knocked the baffle out so it would sounded like a Ford.
