5600 alternator-regulator wiring

Forgive my ignorance, this is my first post and first time working on a tractor. My father in laws 1975 Ford 5600 tractor caught on fire in his barn, saved the barn, but tractor heavily damaged. I replaced or rebuild all mechanical needed to make tractor start and run. The only wiring harness I could find was for a generator type tractor, this one has alternator. D3NN-10306-B is the part number of the alternator. Regulator needed is part # D7NN10316B as I understand it. Bought and installed. I know where green field and ground go. On harness I have hot from battery, battery wire from alternator, hot to ignition. I have red (battery) on regulator and yellow (ignition) from regulator. Not sure how connections go together. Only have wiring for generator type setup. I am sure it is a simple problem but need some help and don't want to start another fire! :) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike in TN

Google wiringharness.com
They show making a harness for a 5600
I don't have any diagrams but do have a 5600 setting near the shop, about all I can do is that a photo of the alternator wiring and see if the colors are recognizable.

I don't know about your 5600 model as I only work on N's, early Fergusons, and Hundred Series models, but the original 6V systems with the generator use the voltage regulator -all 12V switch-over jobs using an alternator do not use a voltage regulator nor cutout as in 9N/2Ns. I suspect your later model is supposed to be 12V so get the manual and determine what you need before buying any new parts. Here is place in NY that makes wiring harnesses and can try them.

I really appreciate all the information and feedback. I think I am getting pretty close but have to ask a couple more dumb questions. Yellow wire from regulator to ignition would go to a terminal that is hot in accessory position? Is that correct?

On a side note, there appears to be a temperature sensor in the block just behind the cylinder closest to the firewall. Not sure what its purpose is as I thought engine temp came from a sensor on the front of the motor. I found and have ordered a CD with wiring and other information on it. 2 week delivery though. Thanks again for all the help.

Hot in the ignition position, not accessory.

A picture of this supposed temp sensor would be nice. I can think of nothing that would go into the block behind the engine.
