My 1971 4500 TLB project lives

With the air cleaner off, let alone the muffler, I can't hear myself yell when my 4500 is running. Maybe it was your phone clicking. Also, is the engine supposed to be yellow or
blue in '71?

JF in MI, that maybe possible that the phone was creating the metallic clicking sound. I had the phone pretty close to my head while I was listening for any sounds. This one was all yellow, I swapped out the 4x4 converter transmission to a regular 6x2 manual trans since it will be used on our farm.

I think they switched to all yellow in 70 or 71, my 69 model has a blue chassis with yellow tin and wheels.

My Dec '71 4500 has the blue/yellow combo as well.

I'll have to ask my brother about that, he's worked on a lot of those backhoes for a Industrial Ford dealership way back when the city of San Antonio used to use all Ford equipment. The dealer stocked engines, and transmissions so they could get them back to the city. The old engines, and transmission that couldn't be rebuilt they used to send to a junk yard, but had some good reuseable parts left on them.
