Ford 4000 industrial

So I bought a 4000 industrial. 4140 bare back, no pto or too
cover. I have robbed those parts off of a parts tractor. My
question is I have to replace the clutch as it doesn't move and
grinds some going into gear. Can I put a dual stage clutch in
so I have the live pto option?

It is unclear to me whether you have a 4 cylinder 4140 or the later 3 cylinder 4140

If you have the 3 cylinder 4140 (4410?) the 4000 has an independent pto which might be easier to obtain than a two stage pto clutch.

If you have an earlier 4 cylinder 4000 I have little information.

Unless someone swapped in a 5 speed that came with a double clutch you cant. I think most of those came with a 4 speed, no live clutch with that. I dont know why you want a double clutch but you can install an overrunning clutch on the PTO shaft so a bush hog wont push you through a fence. It works like a ratchet wrench.

Not sure if you have an older 4 cylinder tractor that could have live pto or newer 3 cylinder model that could have independent pto, but it doesn't really matter.
Unless you've changed out all of the necessary gears and shafts in the transmission to drive the pto, changing the clutch won't matter.
My 69 4500 industrial with 6x4 manual reverser doesn't have any of the shafts or gears for a pto.

I have a 4 cylinder 172 cubic inch motor. I have not split the tractor yet to compare parts to the 861 I have. But inside. The hydraulic reservoir where the pto connects is all the same.

If it has the output shaft coming out the rear of the trans you can install the rear pto and shifter for trans pto but everything is different inside the trans for live pto, you can't swap the clutches without changing the trans over.
Way to much work and cost unless you have a spare trans that's setup for live pto.
