No fuel presure at injectors on 59 901 deisel

I have a 59 for 901. I am currently trying to get the engine to fire after a rebuild. I have a roosa master pump. The tractor was running when I pulled the pump ,and I had safety wire on it to keep it in place. The pump has been sitting for 6 weeks in total bagged up in my shop.

Now after getting tractor buttoned up I have no pressure at injectors. I have fuel up to pump currently and when I crack open banjos on pump it dribbles a little out. I am thinking the pump has air in it. I don't see a bleed screw and don't want to just loosen random stuff as I know these pumps are finicky. I only have maybe 1 gallon in tank as it sits. I see some posts saying it needs at least 1/2 full to get enough pressure to prime pump properly. I have checked all lines (injector hard/return lines. I appreciate any insight you may have as I am ready to push it out of the garage and set it on fire.

I added more fuel now and charged battery. I am not getting fuel pissing out of injector lines while turning over at the head. Still will not fire when I tighten them all back down. I sprayed a quick dab of ether in intake while cranking and she instantly tried to fire off. I don't want to use any more starter fluid as I read it is bad for the internals. Any other advise to get the engine to fire off for it's first start? Thanks again for the input.

Man, I have wanted to fire up a lot of things before but Percy stepped in. If you have someone that can pull you off in high gear that usually gets them primed. Just get a long chain, a strap is better, and someone who knows how to pull without jerking the tractor out from under you.

see what dieseltech thinks about it, but several are fond of a gasoline soaked rag over the air intake......claim less stress than starting fluid.....????

That might work . . . unless it's a Select-O-Speed.

I also have a '59 901. Mine is an SOS. I once ran it out of fuel while raking hay. Knowing that bleeding it is a two day job I immediately went and got a different tractor. Unless you can tow it you need to have a battery charger on it as well as booster cables from another source. Just keep at it.

Life will be simpler if you can get someone to help you pull it off. Saves the battery, starter and your sanity.

dont crack the banjos on the pump as it drains the lines back down....... Crack the nuts at the injector. when start to barely bubble out there, tighten and crank some more. You dont see much volume dribble out, so when you see it start to ooze out, tighten the nuts up and away you go.... crank, crank, crank, and a way you go... crank crank sputtter, sputter.. when the exhaust starts to smoke a bit, your getting fuel with lots of bubbles, but its getting closer, crank, sputter, sputter.... run sputter run.

Like I stated previously, that would be good. . . if his tractor is not a Select-O-Speed. He doesn't have that option if he has an SOS!

Tractor is a 5 speed. I got it to have little puffs of smoke out of exhaust and one good sputter last night. I am throwing in the towel. After work, we are hooking it to the yukon and towing it in a low gear. Hopefully that takes care of it. Can I install a small 4-7psi helper pump between filter and injection pump to prevent this in the future?

You can put a pump in there, but there's no need for it if your injection system is I shape. I'd leave it gravity fed.

ou wiil have better luch trying to tow in high gear than low (slower engine speed & less tire sliding).

Well I towed the tractor up and down my driveway. No luck. I then saw a video of a guy bleeding his injectors and realized my pressure was nothing close to his. So I pulled the pump. The screen was clogged, and the metering valve was stuck. I tore the pump down. Thankfully I had a rebuild kit ready. I have to say that that is no easy task. I cleaned the metering valve and the plungers and re-assembled the pump. I bled the injectors and the tractor fired right off. Thanks for all the help and input guys. I was ready to push the tractor outside and light it on fire.
