Piston pump check valves

By chance there wouldn't be anybody relatively close by that would have the special tool to remove the intake check valve seats from a NAA piston pump(9/16 pistons). Not really inclined to spend $65 for the tool that I will probably only use once.

If you have a tap you can cut a little thread and use a screw, washer and nut. I think I used a 1/4-28 tap. The seats are a little hard and not good for the tap so just cut enough thread to get the screw to bite. Once they move a little they fall out. That's assuming it's the same type pump as the late 2/3000s.

Thanks for the tip. Had a tap in hand but did not force the issue. Pump works fine with cold oil but real lazy about lifting a load when warmed up. Can't see a real problem except check valves don't seam to hold penetrating oil vary long. Will try a little harder

George's homemade seat puller & another posters approach is mentioned too.

Well, I made a special punch out of and old rake tooth and drove them out from the back side. Worked pretty decent. Will report back on the function of the pump later, after grandkids ballgames, wedding showers and other great/ grandparent "functions"
