Got a problem I've never encountered before with my fords. I picked up a sweet 960 last fall that had been sitting for a while. My problem is that the PTO doesn't disengage when you push the clutch in. The clutch free play is adjusted correctly and it doesn't matter which hole I have the pin in for live PTO. I hooked up a 3 point spreader this spring and thought maybe the 2nd stage of the clutch was stuck and not releasing? Is that possible? I ran it with a 7 foot sickle last night and it still wont disengage with the clutch. I have to shut the tractor off to engage the PTO. I haven't dug into it yet...just looking for ideas before I pull the shaft. Any ideas?

Well, it -does- matter which pin hole you use for the pedal, but I know what you mean.....

Put it in the second hole, so the pedal is as high as it goes. Can try adjusting the pedal higher with the threads on the rod.

Either stuck or wore out, I would guess.

Another thing to check, it fixed mine.
That linkage should have pins in it. I think they're 5/16.
Someone had replaced mine with bolts and the threads wore off
the bolts. That little bit of difference in size made the PTO clutch
not disengage, exactly as you are describing. Costs nothing to check.

I'm thinking the clutch is stuck, just didn't know if that was possible with a 2 stage clutch, that the second stage could stick.
Rosye, it has the correct pin in the clutch. I'm gonna put the brush hog on her this weekend and see if that breaks her loose.
